| Naprapathy - Connective Tissue Manipulation |
|
Naprapathy is a system of connective tissue manipulative therapy, using manually applied movements, both active and passive, designed to bring motion and release of tension into abnormally rigid and contracted ligaments, muscles and tendons. These injured connective tissues, which support the spinal column and other bony articulations, interfere with normal nerve conduction, blood flow and lymph movement and will eventually cause pain and illness if balance is not restored.
Naprapaths believe that a favorable internal environment (e.g. a strong immune system) is essential for the repair and maintenance of health. The techniques developed by Dr. Oakley Smith in 1905 are still used today to maintain this favorable internal environment by releasing points of tension to ligaments, tendons and muscles. When the body begins to restore its internal environment, true healing can take place. Richard Moran, DN is a 1978 graduate from Chicago National College of Naprapathy (now The National College of Naprapathic Medicine). He has worked with the Waters Integrative Health Center since 1996. Prior to that, he was co-owner/operator of Moran Naprapathic Clinic in Wheeling, Illinois for ten years. In 1988, he and his wife and two children moved to the Castle Rock Lake area. They now have nine children, and one grandchild and live in a very peaceful setting. At this health center, we believe that all aspects of the human body require addressing to achieve relief from disease and to prevent future illness. These areas include normalizing chemistry, improving circulation, correcting structural defects and reducing stress. Naprapathy and “manual medicine” techniques in general address the majority of these and beyond. It has always been an integral part of healing systems worldwide. It is only in the past half century that synthetic drugs have become central to medical treatment. This unfortunate occurrence is gradually being remedied with the reintroduction of nutrition, herbalism and manual medicine as major therapeutic interventions. The improve flow of blood that occurs after Naprapathic treatment brings nutrients into the region in question, and perhaps more importantly, promotes the elimination of toxins that inevitably build up in areas of structural impairment. The entire process of relief of pain, muscle spasm and eventual degenerative changes in tissues obviously leads to stress on the entire person. This can be experienced as fatigue, depression and just plain “blah” feelings. We believe Dr. Moran brings an important dimension to this health center and his services will allow quicker return to health in all manner of ailments.
